    Modern Day Von Trapp Family

Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start. Only “Sound of Music” buffs will catch that reference. It will always be one of my personal favorite movies. The story of a talented family of singers and musicians based in 1930’s Austria, a very volatile time in our world history. The Von Trapp Family Singers were like a breath of fresh air and their story has been passed on through the generations. Well here’s another breath of fresh air for our own modern day upheavals. The Kanneh-Mason family of musicians.

The Kanneh-Masons came to the awareness of the masses through the hit tv show Britain’s Got Talent. The one and only Simon Cowell labeled them as the most talented family in the world. The Kanneh-Masons are 6 brothers and sisters ranging in age from 10 to 19 years old. They play a mix of violin, viola, cello, and piano mostly in the style of classical music. These young musicians are so focused and driven it’s inspiring to watch. You can find out more about the Kanneh-Masons here www.KannehMasons.com

They have upcoming concerts scheduled in Antigua, North Carolina, Nottingham, and New York City (to name a few).

I’m sure we’ll be hearing lots more about this incredible family.

    Star Wars Tribute

Can you imagine meeting your celebrity crush or childhood idol? What would you say? Some people turn into the quintessential fan and lose control of themselves. Others have somehow mastered the art of staying “cool”.

It’s safe to say that these two young men stayed pretty cool under pressure. Bryce Hayashi and Michael Miller were courageous enough to stand in front of the home of their idol (John Williams of  Star Wars fame) and perform one of his most notorious compositions; The Star Wars theme song.  See below what happens when these brave young musicians fill John Williams’ front yard with music.

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! According to scientific studies people who listen to

jazz music are proven to be smarter and more creative. I repeat, “people who listen to jazz music are smarter and more creative”.

If you haven’t already jumped out of your seat and headed towards your record player or Spotify smooth jazz playlist, here’s a little more insight on the subject.

I may have been been exaggerating a bit about the smarter and more creative part. That’s a bit difficult to prove. However, the benefits of listening to jazz music, specifically, have certainly been proven. When the Street Is Your Stage

The art of street performing dates all the way back to ancient times. There was no live tweeting, periscope, or “going viral” back then but these performers often made their living entertaining curious onlookers. They make balloon animals, dance, paint, sing, play instruments, charm snakes, tell stories, do magic tricks and much more. The custom is that those passing by show their appreciation by dropping a few dollars into a jar for the artist.

These days there are few places more famous for street performers than New York City. Especially New York City subways. They do say that if you can make it there you can make it anywhere. Here is an incredible trio “TOO MANY ZOOZ” playing an original piece in Union Square Subway Station. (missing their usual trumpet player)

    Karaoke For Your Health

    Happy-Family-singing-karaoke-together-e1419537193917

Let’s be entirely honest, singing karaoke is not everyone’s idea of a good time. For some it may be embarrassing or spark a fit of anxiety. BUT let’s talk for a moment about why singing karaoke could be awesome for you.

Dr Michael Roizen MD who, along with Dr Oz, has authored 8 NY Times Bestselling books has this to say about singing karaoke.

“Singing (on or off key) improves breathing—and that’s good for many parts of your body and brain. According to a recent Japanese study (of course!), the benefits of karaoke are far-reaching. Singing Sinatra—or even Aerosmith—relieves stress and boosts self-esteem and confidence, while also building social connections—all major life extenders. Plus, families that karaoke together build bonds and banish conflict.
There haven’t been studies on how karaoke affects listeners, but listening to joyful music (and what’s joyful is always a personal opinion) reduces blood pressure, so if you enjoy what you’re singing or listening to, be a rock star or a lounge lizard and embrace karaoke”
